Westcode Press-Pack IGBT capsules can replace outmoded GTO devices

 

Recent developments in Westcode IGBT technology have pushed the performance boundaries and cost-effectiveness of these devices where they have supplanted the GTO thyristor as the device of preference in high power traction switching applications.

 

Westcode engineers, with many years of experience in traction applications, have successfully pioneered the replacement of GTOs with IGBTs in existing designs and have even been able to offer replacement service update kits to some traction users. They are also happy to offer advice to makers considering using IGBT technology for similar applications.

 

Suitable HV IGBT gate drive units (single and dual channel) designed to suit the range are also available.

 

Replacing older, difficult to obtain, GTO devices with current leading-edge IGBTs has advantages in cost, availability, reliability and engineering simplification.
